Being a police officer can be stressful. So if you’re a cop who’s just getting off the job, is there a better way to relax than going to one of the five happy-ending massage parlors you own? What’s that? That’s illegal? Also just wrong? Interesting. Okay, well, you learn something every day.

Someone who learned that lesson a little too late is San Diego’s own Peter Griffin. Yes, let’s get that out of the way now: His name is Peter Griffin. To answer your follow-up question, no, he does not look like Peter Griffin from Family Guy.

As for the actual facts of the case, Griffin, 79, is a former vice detective and attorney. Last week, he was sentenced for running five different massage parlors to which people could go for “commercial sex services,” per NBC San Diego. “The defendants advertised sexual services online and employed women to perform those services, prosecutors said. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the women were “mostly vulnerable, non-English speaking immigrants from Korea and China with limited employment opportunities and financial resources,’” details NBC San Diego.

Of course, this whole thing was replete with (alleged) corruption. NBC reports that Griffin used to do work with the San Diego Police Department’s Vice Unit, known for investigating crimes related to sex work, and during the trial, “[Griffin’s] co-defendants also told the massage businesses’ employees that Griffin’s status as an ex-cop would keep the businesses off of law enforcement’s radar.”

Per CBS, Griffin also pleaded guilty to money laundering and wire fraud conspiracy. As a result, he will now be spending 33 months in prison — not exactly freakin’ sweet.
